The movie The Music Never Stopped seemed to come and go pretty quickly in theaters, but is now out on DVD and should be required viewing for any real music fan. Based on a true story by Awakenings author Oliver Sacks, it’s the amazing account of how music helped fill in the blanks of a strained relationship between a father and son and the memories lost as a result of brain surgery. It’s not an easy scenario to watch unfold but it’s the music that’s the glue that holds the whole thing together. It proves why we are affected by music so deeply – once it’s in there, it is stuck for good. It’s a story well told and acted with J.K. Simmons as the Dad leading the way and it’s one you’ll remember long after. Fans of 60’s rock will really appreciate it but it’s the Dead Heads who will especially dig the ride.
