Black Dub Rules

I’m beginning to think that Daniel Lanois is more super hero than he is musician/producer. It doesn’t seem humanly possible that one guy could single-handedly mastermind some of the most invincible music on the planet. His work with U2 and Bob Dylan alone is a force to be reckoned with and that barely scratches the surface of his impact. Everything was going along just fine with that whole dynamic duo thing he had with Neil Young and his much anticipated Le Noise and then like out of nowhere…POW…he comes out with this band. They call themselves Black Dub but they could easily be interchangeable with The Fantastic Four. Lanois commands the crew consisting of longtime sidekicks Brian Blade on drums and Daryl Johnson on bass and the way they wield their respective sticks and strings is a marvel to behold. The fire power behind the voice is Trixie Whitley and you could almost see the musicality running through her veins. (She also happens to be the daughter of the late Chris Whitley and we were recently reminded of his greatness when Colin Hay chose Chris’ Black Dirt for his 60 Second Soundtrack – take a look it’s excellent.) They’ve been turning a lot of heads since the release of their action-packed self titled debut. Here they are doing their thing in the video of “I Believe in You” which can only be summed up in one word: OMG! See for yourself:
