60 Second Soundtrack: Marshall Crenshaw

Beach Boys fans are abuzz awaiting the release of the ill-fated masterpiece Smile. Expected out in August, the most talked about record never released, that just about sent Brian Wilson and company over the edge in 1967, will finally see the light of day. Most people know all about Smile and its accompanying baggage but few may be as well versed on the record that followed. For that we defer to Marshall Crenshaw. We recently sat down with the singer songwriter at City Winery in NYC and talked about all kinds of stuff; his career that took off with “Someday Someway” in 1982, the precarious music industry (he promises to go down with the ship) and the Marshall Crenshaw Cabernet they were pouring that night. And in this boomitude 60 Second Soundtrack, he also shares (literally) one of those records that never fails to make him smile. Take it away MC!
